If you are looking for a holiday that is very much different, then visit the beautiful and vibrant city of Rotterdam, which is indeed considered as one of the largest port cities in the world. Located on the banks of the vast Nieuwe Mass River, which is in turn, a part of the several streams in the delta created by the mighty Rhine and Meuse rivers, Rotterdam was ranked the world’s largest and busiest port until the 1990s, when other Asian cities of Singapore and Shanghai took over the position. This strategic location of the city has given way to Rotterdam, and the whole of Holland and neighboring countries to be connected by the water with France and Switzerland, and this has led to a great economic boost of the entire nation of Holland.
Besides being just a port, Rotterdam is an incredibly beautiful city, which occupies the position of the second largest in Holland, preceded only by the capital city of Amsterdam. Rotterdam’s beauty is ethereal, where the glistening waters of the river blends in a queer yet graceful way with the man made artistry of the city, revealed in the massive architectures and artifacts displayed in museum. The exuberance and revelry of the city adds a beautiful flavor to the entire sightseeing and touring experience of Rotterdam.

The rich culture that the Dutch city of Rotterdam transudes is rooted deeply in its years of historical past dating back to 900 AD, but its main settlement was founded in the early medieval times. With the construction of a dam to separate river Rotte and Nieuwe Mass and the canal connecting it to the important commercial city of Delft, brought immense prosperity especially in terms of economy in the 1300s. However, the city has been through a lot of turmoil as it was the destroyed almost completely twice, once in the 16th century by fire and second by the German Air attacks in 1940. But the entire credit goes to the undying spirit of the locals of rebuilding the entire city to bring it to the stature it has today – of that of being a modern and thriving city with elements of the historical past.
Today, many ethnic groups including Dutch, Surinamese, and Turkish, Moroccan, Antillean, South European and more reside in harmony in Rotterdam, with each of the groups contributing to the culture of the city that is fascinating and as well as intriguing. From sports to shopping to traditional festivals and museums and lots more make Rotterdam a beautiful city to make your vacation a memorable one for all you life.
