Eramus Bridge in Rotterdam

The view and geography of the city of the Dutch city of Rotterdam is amazing, with numerous modern architectures and constructions, which proves that urbanization has had a major impact on the city, which was once the largest and busiest port in the world, and today still holding the stature of being one of the largest ports. The economy of the city primarily came from the harbor on the Nieuwe Maas River, which divides the city into two separate halves.

Hence, once you reach Rotterdam and wish to get from one side of the river to the other, then one fabulous construction that will unmistakably catch your attention is the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam, which is a remarkable piece of architecture, facilitating travelers immensely in traveling from the north of the city to the south and vice versa.

Under the official assent of the Queen Beatrix, the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam was inaugurated in the year 1996. The total construction cost of the bridge was estimated at about seventy million Euros. Recently, made world renowned by the Jackie Chan film named ‘Who am I?’ the elegant looking Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam is built across the river Nieuwe Maas and joins the two parts of the city in an easy manner. It is a cable-stayed bridge in that its deck is supported by numerous cables and the entire structure comprises of columns and pylons. The cables are of great support and the design of the harp makes it look gorgeous. These cables are attached to the top end of the column and the other ends of the cables are attached to the bridge deck at a distance equivalent to the height of the column.

The Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam designed and built by Ben van Berkel in the year 1996, has an amazing structure, which is unique in its look. It has a length of eight hundred and eight meters with an asymmetric pylon which has a peculiar bend, giving it the look of a swan. Arrangements have been made for all those ships whose size is too large to let them pass underneath the bridge. For this account, on the southern part of the bridge, an eighty-nine meters long bascule bridge has been constructed, which is considered as the largest and heaviest bascule bridge in the whole of western Europe with a panel, which ranks as the largest in the world.
